Take A Glimpse

Some days I post about politics. Some days I rant about random things. Today I’m going to give you a look into my personal life.

I'm giving you the key to unlock the secrets of my heart!

To give you an overview, today I will speak on three things: my first graduate student experience, a ridiculously huge box of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, and my new pants.

First and foremost, today was my first graduate student happening at UT. We had a review session that we were “strongly encouraged to attend.” It started at 12:30pm and lasted until 3:30pm. It was basically everything you need to know that’s going to be on the test. There were three different sections. The first section was an overview of all the theory that will be on the test. I really enjoyed this part because I like theory. I’m not too worried about the theory placement exam since I majored in theory during my undergrad years. Although, I haven’t done much part-writing or analyzing in a while so the little refresher was nice. My first impression of the main theory professor there is — she seems hilarious and awesome. I’m looking forward to working with her.

The second part of the review session was a review of musicology. I had really high expectations of this part of the review session because, as you know, I feel like I’m lacking in the music history department. So when the review session consisted of the professor playing musical examples for us and then we discussed them…even though there isn’t a listening portion on the actual test…I was a little disappointed. Actually, a lot disappointed. Just do me one favor — don’t think less of me when I have to take the remedial music history class, even though I’ve studied hardcore for the past month. Okay? That’s all I ask. I appreciate it.

This is me being thankful.

The last part was ear training. Not too worried about ear training since we have a week to complete/pass the test. And since we can take it as many times as we want for as long as we want. I feel okay about that. In conclusion, theory is good, music history is not good, ear training is good.

Next!

The ridiculously huge box of Reece’s cups…I don’t really have much to say about this other than…why does this exist?

Will and I were going somewhere in the car and I brought a snack with me – a Reese’s cup – and all of a sudden he says “Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you…for some reason on my dining room table at home there’s a huge book box of Reese’s cups.” I was a little taken aback. You see, Reese’s cups are one of my favorite candies. I pretty much love anything chocolate but I particularly enjoy the creamy peanut butter and chocolate combination that a Reese’s presents. Seriously? How random is that? It’s like being in a dream! You just walk into a room full of Reese’s candies!? Yuummm…

And last but not least, I have some exciting news to share. I have successfully lost 25 pounds :-). Over the course of the summer, my goal was to lose around 20-25 pounds before I started grad school. I’ve been putting off buying new clothes mainly because I don’t have the money to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe. But today, I went and bought my first pair of jeans :-). I feel like that’s a pretty big accomplishment so I thought I’d share my exciting news with you!

My pants do not look like this...just so you know

Until tomorrow, fellow BFs!

PS – if you haven’t checked out my “Gigs ‘Round Town” page, I have a gig tomorrow with Will Yager and Kenton Martin at Coolato Gelato in downtown Knoxville. If you’re bored tomorrow night between 8:30-10:30 then you have no excuses but to come out and see us play!
